Community Assistance Project 2022-03-12
The Cochise Linux User Group, CLUG, in conjunction with the Ubuntu Arizona Local Community Team, AZLOCO, conducted a community assistance project on Saturday, 12 March 2022 at the Warrior Healing Center, 1838 Paseo San Luis, Sierra Vista AZ. Four people attended the event. The purpose of this event was to set up their Operations Center. Wired Internet connectivity was established in the room and three computers with Ubuntu 20.04.4 were set up for their use. One additional computer will be added at a later date. The computers used either belonged to the Warrior Healing Center or were donated by the Cochise Linux User Group.

The Cochise Linux User Group, CLUG, in conjunction with the Ubuntu Arizona Local Community Team, AZLOCO, conducted a Linux Workshop-Installation Festival on Saturday, 15 January 2022 at the Warrior Healing Center, 1838 Paseo San Luis, Sierra Vista AZ. Seven people attended the event. The purpose of this Linux Workshop/Installfest was to install Ubuntu 20.04 on 3 desktop computers and update 10 computers. Two Ubuntu installations were completed without error. The third was not completed because we could not get the computer to boot. It was put aside for additional work. The 10 computers at the Warrior Healing Center were updated without error. Donuts and coffee were present for the attendees.

The Cochise Linux User Group, CLUG, in conjunction with the Ubuntu Arizona Local Community Team, AZLOCO, conducted a Linux Workshop/Mini-Installation Festival on Saturday, 12 June 2021 at the Warrior Healing Center, 1838 Paseo San Luis, Sierra Vista AZ. Eight people attended the event. The purpose was to install Ubuntu 20.04 on the 3 desktop computers and the 2 laptops that were donated to the group. These five installations were completed without error. In addition a member brought his desktop in to have Linux Mint 20.1 installed. That was also completed without error. Finally Mac OS Catalina was installed on a MacBook Pro again without error. Coffee and donuts were present for the attendees.

The Cochise Linux User Group, CLUG, in conjunction with the Ubuntu Arizona Local Community Team, AZLOCO, conducted a Linux Workshop/Mini-Installation Festival on Saturday, 10 April 2021 at the Warrior Healing Center, 1838 Paseo San Luis, Sierra Vista AZ. Nine people attended the event. The purpose was to install Ubuntu 20.04 on the 3 desktop computers that were donated to the group. In order to give the newer members of the group some experience in installation and post installation activities they were the ones that did the work supervised by the more experienced members. These installations were completed with only one minor issue (a mini-install was conducted instead of a full install), which was corrected later. We also had to add RAM to one of the computers to bring the the total to 4 Gbs. A test was also preformed on the new draft Post Installation Instructions. Deficiencies were corrected and the document has been modified.

Donated Computers
The Cochise Linux User Group has received computers from members and other people. In some cases we have repaired them with donated parts and installed a Linux operating system on all of them. In most cases it has been Ubuntu. As of 09 April 2020 we have donated 30 of those desktop and laptop computers to individuals and groups. These are a few of the people who have received them.

Installfest 2019-11-02
The Cochise Linux User Group, CLUG, in conjunction with the Ubuntu Arizona Local Community Team, AZLOCO, conducted an Installation Festival on Saturday, 02 November at the Warrior Healing Center, 1838 Paseo San Luis, Sierra Vista AZ. Twenty people attended the event which resulted in four installs (2 Ubuntu, I Linux Mint, 1 MX Linux ). In addition there were 3 Ubuntu installs the previous day and three multiple monitor configurations for the Warrior Healing Center Operations Center. There was also a RAM upgrade for one of the computers in the Warrior Healing Center Computer Lab. Ubuntu lanyards as well as information about Free and Open Source Software, AZLOCO, and CLUG were distributed.

Warrior Healing Center Operations Center Assistance
The Cochise Linux User Group donated two refurbished laptop computers with Ubuntu 18.04.3 installed on them and two computer monitors to the Warrior Healing Center to be used in their Operations Center. In addition we provided assistance to configure three of their computers to have multiple monitor capability.

Computer Presentation 2019-10-07

Introduction to Linux Presentation 2019-08-29
An “Introduction to Linux” slide presentation was conducted on 29 August 2019 at the Warrior Healing Center, 1838 Paseo San Luis, Sierra Vista, AZ. A brief history of Linux, what a Linux operating system includes, what it can do, and the advantages of a Linux system over Microsoft Windows or Apple OS were covered. There were 8 attendees.

Warrior Healing Center Linux Computer Lab
On 26 August 2019, the Cochise Linux User Group in conjuction with the Ubuntu Arizona Local Community Team finished setting up a Linux computer lab for the Warrior Healing Center, 1838 Paseo San Luis, Sierra Vista, AZ. All four of the computers were donated, renovated by members of the two organizations, and had Ubuntu 18.04 or Xubuntu 18.04 installed. They are intended to be used by veterans from the local communities who otherwise have no access to a computer.

Tux In The Snow
While most of our activities deal with solving Linux problems, installing Linux operating systems on computers, and publicizing Linux operating systems and Free and Open Source Software, occasionally there are other things that occur. Sierra Vista had a snow storm on 29 December. Tux, the Linux mascot, decided to get out in the snow because he rarely has a chance to do so in hot and dry Arizona.

Sixteen people attended the event which resulted in two installs (both Lubuntu 18.04.1). A one on one training session was conducted on Ubuntu and its flavors demonstrating what each application does and on Linux operating systems and how to choose the correct one for your computer. Distributed Ubuntu stickers, lanyards, and pins as well as information about Free and Open Source Software and the local Linux groups. Discussions were held on possible additional publicity for the next installfest and a location change for the 2019 installfests.

Because of the publicity that the CLUG received for the last Installfest we received two telephone calls for assistance from a lady in Sierra Vista and a couple in Sunsites. Two members, Rex Bouwense and Louie Garcia went to the Sierra Vista location on Friday 10 November to install Ubuntu 16.04 over Microsoft Windows 10 on a laptop. She was also given the information on AZLOCO, CLUG, and Open Source Software.

UA South Install
We were asked by Dr John DeLalla, the Director of Continuing Education at the University of Arizona South, to provide the hardware, installation media, and installers for some students attending a Security Summer Camp at the UA South who desired to have a Linux distribution installed on their computer. We complied on 28 July 2017. However, there was only one student who brought her computer for us to install Ubuntu on it. There were six CLUG members present at one time or another during the event. The installation was performed in short order without a problem and the client was extremely happy with the outcome.

West End Fair 2017
The Cochise Linux User Group (CLUG) in conjunction with the Ubuntu Arizona Local Community (AZLOCO) set up and ran an information booth at the 12th annual West End Fair in Sierra Vista AZ. An estimate of 1500 to 2000 people attended the Fair and perhaps three dozen people expressed an interest in CLUG and/or Ubuntu and Free and Open Source Software. Only 5 left their email addresses to be contacted at a later time. Information sheets on CLUG and AZLOCO activities and events in the Sierra Vista area were distributed (which also provided local points of contact for additional information) as were Ubuntu pins, stickers, and lanyards. The booth was manned by a total of 10 individuals at one time or another from 0900-1500.
