problem with SDD - answer

From Eugene Zastera · Oct 18, 2019

At the last meeting I mentioned that I had an Intel 80G SDD  that shows only 8M available space.

Intel identifies it as a known problem with the firmware.

Unfortunately, Intel will NOT give me the firmware upgrade to fix it, because I didn’t buy the drive from them.  It was embedded in a system, and for that reason they won’t let me download and install the firmware fix (which is clearly posted on their website).  Intel says go to the OEM who put the SSD in the computer and get an update from them.  That might take months to identify who even built the system.

Really great to know how Intel will treat those who have their products!

So, there is the answer.  Bad firmware, and Intel won’t help.

I'm surprised there aren't any wire heads on the web who have that hotfix available.

Great suggestion!  I’ll try looking around.  Hadn’t thought of that angle.

Don’t want to put too much effort into an 80G old SSD drive, but if I can fix it, maybe donate for repairfest.

Thanks….

Yes, Charles! If the group is going out afterwards for a bite to eat I also plan on going with.  I can give you a ride with that one caveat.
