Trying to reset password (Ubuntu 22.04) single boot

From gz1 · Jun 14, 2024

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that I seem to have forgotten the password for.

The instructions I have for how to reset the password is to boot while holding down the esc key (for UEFI) or shift key (for non UEFI).  Then use the menu.

Well I'm 99.99% sure it's UEFI, and when I boot with esc, I get the grub prompt.  No menu.  Even if I try shift on boot, it just boots normally with no menu.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Devi

Thanks for helping.

I have tried this numerous times, and I don’t get access to the menu.   If I use esc, I get grub>  .  If I use shift, it breezes right on through and loads the OS.

I am thinking maybe I’ll bring it to the WHC on Monday morning and see if I can get Rex to try it.

If you have any other suggestions, I’m open.

Thanks again.

Gene
