Sierra Vista Ubuntu Hour

From Rex Bouwense · May 08, 2019

There will be a Ubuntu Hour at Schlotzsky's, 3900 E. Fry Blvd in Sierra
Vista on Thursday 09 May from 1800-1900. It is a social hour for Ubuntu
and other Linux users to get together and enjoy a great sandwich and a
cup of coffee or soda. Attend if you can and bring a family member,
co-worker, or friend to introduce them to the wonderful world of Linux
operating systems for their personal computer and other Free and Open
Source Software.

Rex

I won't be able to make the Thurs meeting. So I had a couple of questions for the discussion, that I had intended to raise at the meeting;

1. Has anybody running Ubuntu 22.04 been having trouble updating Snap? I keep getting some message that Snap can't be opened.

2. I made a Ventoy usb stick. When I boot it, I get the grub loader? Is that what it is supposed to do? Do you use grub to load whatever .iso you want? Am I way off base?

While it is primarily a social hour, questions are always asked and answered, and problems are always presented and almost always solved. Come out and enjoy a great sandwich and a soda or a cup of coffee. Bring a family member, a co-worker, a neighbor, or a friend and introduce him or her to Linux and Free and Open Source Software. Enjoy meeting and talking to other Linux users. See you there.

In response to the ventoy question, the when you install ventoy to a usb drive, it’ll create two partitions. If you copy the ISOs to the first partition, ventoy will boot with a boot screen allowing you to choose the distribution of your choice.

Thank you for replying.  Are you saying the boot screen is the grub loader?  Because this is my first experience with Ventoy, I don’t know if that is normal.  If so, how do you execute the various iso files?

No on the computer itself it will have two partitions one will have the grub partition for venttoyand be very small and one will be the about size of your actual USB disk you put your isos on the root of that  partition not on the other one other one.. which is what he saying.. the smaller partition is what loads up venttoy  up to choose the isos up on bolt. If it worked you'd see a screen that said venttoy on top and and a list of all isos that you choose from to boot from in the middle.

Thanks! That’s what I needed to know.  Obviously something went wrong while making the Ventoy usb stick.  I’ll redo and try again.
