acer install follow-up

Thanks to both Devi & Rex for the information on “low-end” alternatives.

I created a “persistent” Linux Lite Live usb which does run on my acer (it takes 3 minutes to boot).

I used a 16 GB device resulting in 6.4 GB free so it should install on the acer when I remove Windows 10. First, though, I plan to check out other alternatives for the “fun” of it.

I do have a problem: on Netflix using Firefox when play is clicked it wants a later version of Firefox. The Lite OS came with Firefox 63.0 for Ubuntu. My Linux Mint is currently running Firefox 72.0.2 (Windows 10 just upgraded to 73.0). How do I upgrade Firefox on the Live usb? And, should I expect to have the same problem on the other “low-end” versions? I think version 63 came out sometime in 2018 so I wonder about the support on versions other than the leading ones.

If you have it all setup correctly with persistence and everything you can just run the software updater and should update all the apps and stuff on the usb drive and if it asks for a user/pass the Linux lite login info is on the download page.

On a tangent into persistent usb drives. Finally made a persistent ubuntu 18.04 so I could test it on my mac mini before installing. Glad I did. On my mac mini 2008, VLC will not display correctly (about 10 - 15 times larger) and is unusable. I searched the internet for fixes and find nothing. Could it be an anomaly of the usb persistent? Or are they any other suggestions as to how I can get VLC to function properly on a mac mini and 18.04?
