Supported Linux Distributions

Free install & troubleshooting help in Sierra Vista, AZ

Officially Supported at Workshops & Meetings

At our mini-workshops, CLUG meetings, Ubuntu Hours and other events, we officially support and can help you install and troubleshoot the following distributions — chosen for stability, ease of use, and because most of our members run them daily:

Fully Supported by Us

  • Ubuntu (all flavors) — LTS releases, great hardware support and huge community
  • Linux Mint (all flavors) — familiar desktop, works great on older PCs
  • LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) — Mint experience on a Debian base
  • Arch Linux — rolling release, minimal base for experienced users who want full control

Why Only These Four?

We're a small volunteer group — not a help desk. We keep the list short so we can actually be good at the distros we support. Most of our members run one of these four daily, so we know their installers, quirks, and fixes first-hand. That means faster, more accurate help at our free workshops and meetings instead of guessing through an unfamiliar distro.

Focusing on Ubuntu-based systems (Ubuntu, Mint, LMDE) also keeps things beginner-friendly — similar tools, similar troubleshooting — while Arch gives our more experienced members a rolling-release option to tinker with and learn.

We are happy to offer limited guidance for other Linux distributions if you bring your own installation media — we'll do our best, but detailed troubleshooting may be limited. Check our free hardware inventory — we often have refurbished laptops and desktops ready to take home with Linux pre-installed.

Note:
Support for any distributions not listed above is not guaranteed and should not be expected. This support list is based on what most of our members actively use and are best able to troubleshoot. If you're unsure, ask on the mailing list before the meeting.
