CLUG Installfest

***Reminder***
The CLUG/AZLOCO installfest will take place this Saturday, 28
January 2017 from 1000-1600 at the University of Arizona South, Sierra
Vista campus, 1140 N. Colombo Ave, Sierra Vista AZ in the Learning
Resource Center. If you have not been in contact with one of the Group
Leaders to volunteer for a time frame to assist the in the installation
feel free to show up anyway. Your knowledge and experience will always
be welcome.
In addition there is a Ubuntu Hour scheduled at Schlotzsky's Cafe,
3900 E. Fry Blvd. this Thursday, the 26th of January 2017 from
1800-1900. Attend if you can and enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of
soda and some interesting conversation about Ubuntu, other Linux
operating systems, and Free and Open Source Software.

I have Windows 7 desktop with Intel processor @2.93 GHz and would like to install Linux Mint onto it tomorrow at the install fest. Let me know if this okay.

as long as you backup any important data beforehand.. and bring the monitor, keyboard, power cord etc.. it should all be fine.. we will not back up or transfer any data for you we don't have the storage or time for these services.. we do have mint install media though..

Is your WiFi even recognized in the system settings? Also have possibly rebooted the router to see if that helps

When I click on the icon on lower right in task bar, it shows last connections at the install fest. Does not show my router.

That’s not what asked... when you go to system settings then network settings do you see your router or even an WiFi  card present? A new connection will not show up in “last connections” because it’s new and not last...

Went to system settings-then network, clicked on it . the window shows- wired-network proxy.highlight network proxy and it asks for configuration URL? and automatic.

So sounds like your wireless giving that’s what your trying to use wasn’t recognized by mint automatically so you’d have to look up how to enable it in Linux (if possible) or just use a wired connection, Or get another wireless dongle that is Linux friendly out the box.

For the time being just hook your computer to your router using a CAT5 (ethernet) cable as Devi has already suggested.  That way you can get on the Internet.  It is faster going that route anyway.  I believe that I have some WiFi dongles one of which may work with your system.
