Hope I got this straight, and this is the place to post questions:
Have made a persistent USB of Ubuntu 18.04. Which worked fine until I tried to boot my mac mini (2009) It booted fine for a couple of times then the boot partition got messed up. It won't even boot on a PC now. Here's the error message:
(initramfs) Mount: mounting/cow on/root failed: Invalid argument overlay mount failed.

I have the version of libre office that gets installed with 20.04 ( libre office 1:6.4.7-0ubuntu0.20.04.4)  There is no thesaurus listed when you go to tools-language on the menu. Clt f7 is also supposed to enable the thesaurus, but it does not. I don't know what you mean about two offices suites...

sudo apt install mythes-en-us is the command from the actual command from the thread.. myhtes-en-us all you typed... pretty big difference double checking would be just making sure you actually are making sure you are paying attention you are trying to do. when your trying to install a package.. usually an install somewhere in that command.. just common sense stuff..

thanks devi, yeah I'm in a tizzy this morning.  I found an offline dictionary that I'm installing now (not always online when writing...) I have to wait to try the command again, I'm on a different computer and have to change my wifi dongle ect...more info than you needed I know...Looking for an offline thesaurus, good news-I'll never forget how to spell thesaurus again.Thanks again for your patience.

I discovered the version of libre office on my other computer has the thesaurus with a simple right click. So I set out to find and download that version and learned how to install a deb file. Trying to use the terminal I get this message

Hi Charles.  It looks like you are trying to install a package compiled for an ARM 64-bit CPU onto your Intel/AMD 64-bit computer, which will give you the error you saw.  Try with the .deb package for AMD64 instead.

I know a manual way to do this, so here it goes:

• Copy the contents of /var/cache/apt/archives to a folder on your USB drive. Alternatively you could create a disc image repository using AptOnCD.

• In the file manager (Nautilus), in your home directory, display hidden folders (to do this temporarily the keyboard shortcut is Ctrl+H). Folders starting with a period are the hidden folders, and contain your user preferences to the applications you use. Find the folders of the applications you want to back up (for instance .thunderbird or .wine) and copy all of those to (preferably) a different folder on your USB drive.

• Now on the computer that you wish to configure the same way as your first computer, from your USB drive copy all those Deb files into /var/cache/apt/archives (you'd have to do it as root) if you want to install them from Synaptic (it's a little nicer to do in Synaptic because if Synaptic finds a newer version of that package, it'll download it from the Internet). Alternatively you can go to that folder in the terminal (in the terminal you could do cd /media/usbdrive/debfiles/ and then running sudo dpkg -i *.deb to install all those deb files. You may want to go into Synaptic afterwards to make sure you don't have any missing packages to install.

• Lastly, copy those folders starting with a period into your new home directory. If there was already a folder there, you could delete it first (make sure that application is closed). For instance while Thunderbird isn't running, delete .thunderbird in your home directory and copy over .thunderbird from your USB drive.

As with a lot of instruction in the linux community you are expected to know how to do everything. I should mention the computer I want to instal the new version of Libreoffice is offline, without going into more detail about that.
