I want to install ubuntu (all of my old mac apps won't work on high sierra, and the red tape ect of dealing with apple reminds me of why I jumped ship to linux. Apple is even charging for what used to freeware)

First: One posting says you have to use the terminal to change the iso file to dmg, but another site says you can use the iso to burn an install disk. It does boot off of the iso file, but I had trouble before with putting ubuntu on another mac (worked for awhile then crashed). I wonder of the iso file was the problem?

Secondly: I want to install to an ext drive.  Can I use the same protocols for setting up the partitions as for installing for an ext for pc? Or, do you know what protocols I should use, Could find nothing about this online...

How about my question of installing to ext HD ? 

The battery is already trash, it says 88% but without ac power the deck won't turn on -- hope it will keep working on Ac....

Any time I had to install Linux on a Mac I had to disable the sri or whatever the bios security is called then just boot the usb install media I made and installed it like normal I never made any special ISO or anything in the terminal just because it “was a Mac” I did however have to do special steps to get Wi-Fi working or keyboard leds/touchpads etc after the initial install
