Wi-Fi problem

My Wi-Fi suddenly quit, apparently it is not sensing any signals in the
area. My other laptop sitting next to it works fine. lshw shows
'Wireless Interface Network' Disabled. Network Connections shows the
modem used 2-days before (the last time I used it) & has the proper
setup. Looking at the panel obtained by clicking on the wifi button at
bottom right initially shows 'Enable Networking' checked but not the
'Enable Wi-Fi' box. Checking the latter does not change any of the
above. Leaving it checked & re-booting does not change anything -- it
comes back as unchecked. This is on my HP Pavilion Notebook running
Linux Mint 19.3 (fully updated). I tried using Timeshift to step back 1
week to when the Wi-Fi was working -- no change. I suppose it's a
hardware problem. Hopefully someone will have a different idea. --------------------------------------------------------------------

do you have any wifi buttons on your laptop that you may have hit and turned off the wifi manually alot of people don't realize that does happen from time to time with the function keys on laptops.. be it airplane mode or even wifi buttons they can disable networking so look for a button that would disable the wifi and see if that doesn't kick it back on..
otherwise here is a forum post of people on how they fix it which requires some terminal commands and system file editing it seems.

Hello,
Given that you have gone through your settings:
I keep one laying around the house for just this reason. AND older computers great for running linux can have wifi cards that support old B and G which isn't backwards compatible from AC which is what newer wifi routers run.

Thanks, very good suggestions. My version happens to be one of two with my model number that has the Wi-Fi button. Just my luck!
