I have received a request for assistance from Professor Thomas A.
Jewkes, Assistant Professor of Practice, Cyber Operations Program,
University of Arizona. He is a mentor for a Cyber Patriot Team. Last
year his team did well but in his words, "Debian stomped all over us."
He is interested in someone that might be able to shed some light for
his team on secure configuration recommendations for Debian and Ubuntu.
Cyber Patriot competitions also include things that could be considered
"capture the flag activities." They have to figure out how to bash
script administrative functions like resetting passwords, searching for
shell scripts in /tmp, mp3 files in weird places. Those are a couple of
examples of things that they had encountered in the past. I told him
that I would query the membership to see if anyone would be willing to
provide the assistance that his Cyber Patriot Team requires. If you are
interested in helping please contact me and I will put you in touch with
Professor Jewkes.
