Laptop availability?

I have a nurse acquaintance who needs a laptop to begin an online med certification course. 4 of her 6 children are veterans but she is not. She is willing to donate to the club if necessary for a laptop with Mint (xfce or mate) installed. Pls advise.
PS She does have a small screen notebook which is not ideal and would like to avoid cost of a new laptop.
