25 July CLUG meeting

From Rex Bouwense · Jul 01, 2020

For several months we have been looking for a physical location for
our 25 July meeting. Presentations given in May and June were intended
to prepare members for this meeting which would enable members to
install a Linux OS on a client's computer with confidence. This meeting
is intended to provide you with a hands on experience of an actual
install. The library conference room is still unavailable to us. Other
possible locations that were explored were also unacceptable or closed
for meetings. A member recently volunteered his three car garage but it
will not be available until the August/September time frame. Just when
we were about ready to throw in the towel a member proposed the Bisbee
Senior Center. After an investigation it was found to be a great
location. I have met with the director of the facility and he has
graciously consented to our use of the building. It is normally closed
on the weekends but we have permission to use in on the 25th. It has an
excellent wireless signal, a vast amount of space with tables and
chairs, a large TV, and it is free and only a 30 minute drive from
Sierra Vista. Meeting there will also provide us with an opportunity
to possibly expand our membership into the Eastern part of the county.
The address is 300 Collins Road, Bisbee AZ and is easily accessed
off of S. Naco Road. Recommend car-pooling. I encourage all of you to
attend this meeting. Those of you who want additional experience on
installing will have the opportunity to do so with some experienced
guidance. Those of you who who may not need that experience can
provide the assistance to those members who do need it. Additional
information will be provided as the meeting date approaches.

25 July CLUG meeting

From Rex Bouwense · Jul 24, 2020

Tomorrow (25 July) is our monthly CLUG meeting. This is a reminder.
Since it is at the Bisbee Senior Center (300 Collins Road) I wanted to
point out that the city of Bisbee does have mask directive. However in
the Senior Center masks are still optional. If you plan to go anywhere
else in Bisbee bring a mask because you will need it. If you plan to
convoy with us we are meeting at the mall parking lot next to the old
Sears store and will leave at 1200 so eat lunch before you arrive. I
encourage you all to wear your CLUG T-shirts and hats to the meeting
since we are trying to expand our membership in the Eastern part of the
county. See you there.

From Laura Dwyer · Jul 24, 2020

Wish I could be there tomorrow. Am planning on making the Aug 13th Ubuntu Hour with a computer tower ++ donation. (It has soon-to-be-outdated Ubuntu 18.4 on it.)

Laura,
Ubuntu 18.04 does not reach its End Of Life until April 2023 so it has plenty of life yet.  Besides you could always upgrade to 20.04 which would give you 5 more years.  You have a great deal of options.  Just a short drive to Bisbee.  Come on down.

I'd love to but I got a contractor doing a remodel Saturday and Sunday.

Good. Then the tower will be useful to somebody. I had two hard drives in it, gotta take the one with my documents out.

No.  The meeting will start at 1300 as usual.  I will be leaving the Mall parking lot at 1200 to drive to Bisbee with anyone that wants to convoy there.  I need to be there 30 minutes early to set everything up.  See you in Bisbee.
