Cochise Linux Google Group

From Rex Bouwense · Jun 18, 2022

If you accept the invitation to join the Cochise Linux Google Group, sign in to your Google account and select Google Drive from the menu.  You will notice that certain documents from the Group have been made available under "shared with me".
The file Cochise-Linux contains three files all of which have data or information for you.
    1.  CLUG Presentations have past presentation slides and a form where you can request future presentations or discussions on topics that are of interest to you.
    2.  Inventories has CLUG computer parts and accessories that are on hand and available to members (free of charge of course).
    3.  The Problems and Solutions file has several documents that are designed for you to present problems as well as make suggestions to improve the site and a How To Do certain things in Linux.
Look them over and feel free to make suggestions or present your problems.
Hats off to Bruce who designed the Group.  It is a great start and we are looking forward to your participation.

Rex

I went to my Google Drive and selected "shared with me".   I see lots of stuff I had previously downloaded, but nothing from the CLUG.

Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Gene you have to accept the offer of membership before you have access.  It is not automatically granted.  Once you do that you will have access.

OK, where exactly is this ‘offer of membership”?

The original email had a link to let you create a Google Acccount if you don’t have one.  Well, I already have one, so I skipped that.  Was the offer of membership hidden somewhere in that email, or link?

Re: Cochise Linux Google Group

From Charles Breaux · Jun 19, 2022

I've made this comment before: Often guidance will be given telling what to do, but now "how" to do it.
I have a gmail account and hence a google account that allows me to access youtube. But "HOW" do i sign in to the page where I.m to accept the membership. When I go to google.com there is a link to manage my account. When I go there "to Manage your info, privacy, and security to make Google work better for you" there are no blue boxes to accept the offer.....no menu  where I can choose google drive....

I understand now.  I have had a GOOGLE account for a decade or so which I use to access Google Drive, but I haven't had a GMAIL account before today.

So now that I do and I've registered it in the CLUG Freelist site, will an invite come automatically or do I have trigger something?

Re: Cochise Linux Google Group

From Rex Bouwense · Jun 20, 2022

Charles, you should have received an email inviting you to join CochiseLinux Google Group.  In that email was a blue rectangle that had the words accept invitation.  You would then have been a member of the Google Group.  As to where you find the link to your Google Drive, go to your Google email.  You will notice an icon in the bar with 9 dots.  If you click that icon you will see the applications that Google offers.  Google Drive is one of those.

Gene you have to accept the offer of membership before you have access.  It is not automatically granted.  Once you do that you will have access.

I went to my Google Drive and selected "shared with me".   I see lots of stuff I had previously downloaded, but nothing from the CLUG.

Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

The file Cochise-Linux contains three files all of which have data or information for you.
    1.  CLUG Presentations have past presentation slides and a form where you can request future presentations or discussions on topics that are of interest to you.
    2.  Inventories has CLUG computer parts and accessories that are on hand and available to members (free of charge of course).

Thanks Rex,  I finally figured out the google drive trip and after reading all of the other posts I finally decided that my problem was that I never received an email invitation....perhaps somebody could send me an invitation.
