For those of you that are using Ubuntu as your daily driver,
Canonical will be releasing a new version (26.04) on or about 23 April.
It is an LTS version. Do you need to upgrade? Not unless you want to
do so. Ubuntu 24.04 is supported until April 2029. The Ubuntu 24.04
flavors (Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Edubuntu, Ubuntu-Mate, Ubuntu-Unity,
Ubuntu-Cinnamon, Ubuntu-Budgie, Ubuntu-Kylin, and Ubuntu Studio) are
supported until April 2027. That means that you will continue to
receive updates until that date. However, there are new versions of
Firefox, Thunderbird, LibreOffice, and GIMP included in 26.04. Your
choice. It comes down to whether you want the bleeding edge or are
satisfied with what you have.

The information provided at the attachment will indicate the major
changes that have been made from the last LTS version (24.04). If you
want to upgrade to 26.04 it is not recommended that you do that until
the first point release which will occur around August 2026. If you
want to do a fresh install, merely download the ISO, create install
media, and install it over your current version. In either case make
sure that you BACK UP YOUR DATA TO AN EXTERNAL DEVICE (USB flash drive,
external drive, cloud, etc.) You never know when Murphy's Law will pop
up. There are always bugs with the release of a new version. Most are
caught by the developers but occasionally some slip through the Beta and
RC versions. Just be aware of that.
