Rex and all,
Few points to use Zoom Video conferencing.
You can install it
1. as a linux application "zoom-client" which is the one I use
https://zoom.us/download?os=linux
and it is also in the Ubuntu software search for zoom-client
2. Or as Firefox (and chrome which I have not used) extension.
To sign in I just sign using my google account, of course other options
are available. I someone else (like Rex) started a meeting you will receive the URL
from Rex with the invitations and you join the meeting. Check video is working and you can see yourself in the camera. After is installed its use is very simple and you learn as you use it. Rex and Devon the last meeting was great as usually, thank you very
much for all of your work. It is very easy to go and sit and listening

FYI, I downloaded ZOOM and installed it on a
newly created Ubuntu 22.04 installation. Seems to work fine. We
will talk more about this concept at the Ubuntu Hour on 12 May and
perhaps set up a demo.

Zoom is nice and all, but meetings are limited to 40 minutes if you don't pay. I would also like to try Big Blue Button. Maybe using both is the best way so we can decide which works better for CLUG.

You are correct, also other video-conferencing softwares offer similar
features, however ZOOM has becoming the stanrdard in Academics ,
Colleges and even High Schools. We were discussing in the last meeting that ZOOM can be a useful tool
if we want to introduce linux outside our small group like schools,
etc. Furthermore we can use it in the group not only for all to get
familiar with zoom but even to help users to fix problems at home etc.
In summary ZOOM can help the group as much as BiBlue but also haa far
greater potential for outside reach. BTW for our use ZOOM is free and we can use google. facebook etc or
register with ZOOM which is a very simple process. I think that ZOOM can increase the level of the group without
alienating the present level that is key and very useful for linux
users.
At the end the most important is what is our goal:
1. if we want to stay like we are without increase our focus and we
just want another tool, Big Blue will do it.
2. If we want to enlarge our focus, Big Blue will not do it, ask
anybody in college or high school what they used for video-
conferencing. The time limit is true, there is ways to get around like schedule
another meeting to follow, but 1. To start 40 minutes will be more than what we need.
2. The price of the pro /year is low and it would not be hard to find
an sponsor for that if the need arises.
3. If we interact with a school, they most likely had an account and
they can schedule the meeting
4. We can schedule chain meetings which I would not do. The most important imho is to have all installed ZOOM and learn how to

I have installed ZOOM on one of my computers and
am comfortable with it. Bruce's concept of using both in my
opinion is excellent. One may be better for one thing and the
other may be better for something else. It is always better to
have more than one arrow in the quiver. At the next Ubuntu Hour
we can do a demo on both. Not a big deal. I have used Big Blue
Button for well over four years while a member of the
Ubuntu-Arizona Local Community Team. It does have its short
comings which are or could be covered by ZOOM. We will look at
them both. The 40 minute time limit on ZOOM is certainly not a
disqualifying feature and there is not a very large download.
