Since I don’t know the command, I’ll offer you an alternative.  There is a utility called etcher  balenaEtcher - Flash OS images to SD cards & USB drives that will do what you want.

Would someone please just type out the exact hdiutil convert command I need to put in the terminal to convert an iso to dmg so I can create the bootable usb to get my apple laptop running on ubuntu.

The iso file is on my desktop, and the output file would go onto the desktop.

I am by no means an expert on Apple products but I have conducted
two Ubuntu installs on them.  One was a laptop and the second was
a desktop.  In neither case was a conversion required.  After the

I am by no means an expert on Apple products but I have conducted two Ubuntu installs on them.  One was a laptop and the second was a desktop.  In neither case was a conversion required.  After the ISO is downloaded and burned to a flash drive (Etcher is an excellent choice) merely boot from it.  As the computer is booting press the options key and choose the flash drive as the booting device.  The remainder of the install is the same as installing to any other computer.  At least that has been my experience and both installs that I have been involved with were successful.
