Re: Happy V-day

From Charles Breaux · Feb 15, 2022

I'm trying to connect my desktop to another computer via ethernet to share my wifi connection being received through a usb adapter.

Can't find anything online for ubuntu, only the following guide for windows. Can anyone please tell me how I might do this in 20.04.

  • Take the ethernet/lan cable and join the two systems.
  • Go to the system which has the existing internet connection
  • Open Control Panel-Network and Sharing Center-Change Adapter's Setting
  • Go to the Network connection which has internet connectivity and right click-Properties
  • Go to Sharing
  • Check on both the check boxes and save by clicking ok
  • go to the system which will receive the internet connection
  • Open Control Panel-Network and Sharing Center-Change Adapter's Setting
  • Go to the Network connection which is established when lan cable is attached(Local Area Connection most probably) and right click-Properties
  • Under Networking Tab, go to Tcp/ipv4
  • Select Obtain IP address automatically and also select obtain domain name automatically..
thanks, Charles

alas, close but no cigar. sorry to bother you again, but I'm lost...
as usual the menus that are shown in the article are not the same as the menus on 20.04
I tried messing around with the manual and automatic ways of connecting, but was confused by finding the Ip addresses and other parameters...
here are the screen shots of what the menu in the articles are and

here the menus on my computer

here are the menus
on my computer

here is what I could find about my ip addresses...

Why not buy a el cheapo usb wifi dongle for the second system?  They only cost $2-3 from China. (plus a few weeks wait time....)
That would be the simplest solution!
