App/utility list

From George Praggastis · Jan 14, 2023

As more of a non-admin happy user type of linux Mint, I would like to know if anyone knows of a summary list of available linux apps/utilities that lists general functionality along with the repository the app/utility resides in.  I plan to use Synaptic the pkg mgr gui (in Mint) to load new user apps after first using Stacer linux utility to load any new repositories required. If there is a better way to do this pls advise ....thks

Good Day George and et al.,

I resemble that on occasions. I find a much happier disposition when the fuss factor is minimal and I simply get to use it as intended rather than having to struggle.

The "Software Manager" and "Software Sources" are both in the Linux Mint menu or via simple search. The software manager does require additional initialization time at first instantiation. Depending on your network capabilities your mileage may vary due to transfer quality. Usually it is not too long of a wait. From there you're able to research your software options. When you do arrive at a potential selection within the page displayed is the ability to review the candidate software version offered from the repositories listed.

Example: Gnome Web (aka Epiphany Browser) is available from several of the default software repositories in Linux Mint. Depending on the repository there are different versions available. I did notice on Linux Mint 21.1 there is a FlatPac repository listed too. It makes for convenient selection.

It makes for ease of researching, selecting, installing, and managing your software. I hope this helps and somewhat addresses your inquiry. Be well and cheers!
